Lismore Cup’s most elegant lady will wow them at Flemington

ANGELA McCormick is the bookies' favourite when it comes to race day fashions on the field competitions.

Just last week she took out the prize for Most Elegant Lady at The XXXX Gold Lismore Cup and she is at it again this week, being nominated as the only NSW finalist in the Melbourne Cup Myer Fashions on the Field People's Choice competition.

Ms McCormick is no stranger to being best in show after trying her hand - or heels, hat and dress -at race day competitions for the past five years.

She regularly attends Cup days at the Gold Coast, Ballina, Lismore and Grafton and is no stranger to spring racing's leading day, the Melbourne Cup.

While getting dolled up on a regular basis might seem like an expensive pursuit, Ms McCormick sews and designs her own dresses to keep her costs down.

"It can be expensive but this year I only spent $20 on material to make my dress for the Lismore Cup," Ms McCormick said.

While many women might be overwhelmed by the idea of competing in spring racing fashion competitions around the country, Ms McCormick offers a relatively simple explanation for her addiction to race wear: she just likes to look nice.

"The races are really the last place people can get dressed up to the nines; even people don't get dressed up for weddings any more," she said.

Ms McCormick was nominated for the People's Choice competition in Melbourne after sending a photo of her Lismore Cup race day outfit into the competition on the Flemington Race Track Facebook's page. The winner of the People's Choice competition will be announced on October 21.
