Ferdinand the "fairy" penguin found hiding at Brunswick

NEWLY dubbed Ferdinand, the Little "fairy" Penguin who was found injured and hiding among rocks on a Brunswick Heads beach, is back from surgery.

The Lennox Head veterinarian who examined him said the large wound on his back and puncture wounds on his belly were caused by a dog bite.

The wounds have since been cleaned and stitched up, however little Ferdinand may also have internal injuries.
He has been prescribed antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and pain relief.

Australian Seabird Rescue in Ballina say the next few days will be critical for his recovery.

Ferdinand's volunteer Seabird Rescue carers say he is a bit groggy after surgery but his wounds look much better now that he is all stitched up.
