Fell Swoop looks to be the big favourite for Victory

Several major Australian races have been a horror show for favourite backers in recent years - the Melbourne Cup being the most obvious - but the Victory Stakes is certainly not one of them.

TJ Smith Stakes runner-up Fell Swoop is set to start the 2016 edition at Doomben tomorrow as a very short-priced favourite, and if recent history is any guide, he just about has a mortgage on the race.

Snitzerland was upstaged by Temple Of Boom and Spirit Of Boom as favourite in the 2014 edition, but prior to that the last Victory Stakes favourite to go under was Dance Hero who finished last in 2007.

The winning streak of favourites in the race started in 2008 when Swiss Ace scored - he returned a year later to beat Sniper's Bullet as a $1.50 shot.

Ghetto Blaster kept the run alive in 2010 and Buffering won the race for the first time as favourite in 2011.

Wet weather saw the 2012 edition postponed.

But Buffering was still able to win the replacement race the following Wednesday as an odds-on favourite.

The champ was deep in the red the following year when he scored again.

Srikandi had plenty of doubters 12 months ago but justified her favouritism by beating Ball Of Muscle before going on to capture the Stradbroke Handicap.

This all bodes extremely well for Fell Swoop and he brings stronger form into the Victory Stakes than the majority of previous winners - having finished second by a pixel in the Oakleigh Plate, and only beaten by superstar Chautauqua in the TJ Smith.

Fell Swoop will be one of the best backed runners at Doomben tomorrow and you can increase the value on offer for the odds-on favourite with the Ladbrokes Odds Boost.

Odds Boost allows Ladbrokes customers to select any runner in any race - including the Victory Stakes at Doomben tomorrow - and increase their potential winnings with the simple click of a button.
