Brisbane baby stabbing: Grandfather charged with murder

UPDATE: THE grandfather of a two-month-old baby who died after an alleged stabbing in Brisbane has been charged with murder and attempted murder.

Police were called to Watheroo Place around 2.30pm on Wednesday following reports of three people being allegedly stabbed.

A bedside hearing was held this afternoon in hospital and the 52-year-old has been remanded in custody.

He faces one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

EARLIER: THE FATHER of a baby who was stabbed to death in Brisbane on Wednesday says his family is struggling to come to terms with the loss of their two-month-old daughter.

Tenglong Xu was at work at the time of the incident which put four of his family members, including his wife Yuanyuan Cao, and parents in law, in hospital.

Baby Queenie Xu died in hospital on Wednesday night after police found her lying in her bassinet with multiple stab wounds.

Police are still waiting to interview the grandfather, who police yesterday said 'may be responsible' for the horrific attack. He is under arrest but not charged at this time.

Tenglong Xu has asked the media to respect the privacy of the family. 

"My wife and I would like to extend our thanks to the community for the support they have shown to us since this tragic incident that occurred within our family home on Wednesday.

"We are struggling to come to terms with the loss of our daughter and with the terrible injuries that my wife and her mother have suffered.

"Whilst we appreciate the support we have received, we would like to ask members of the community and the media to please respect our privacy and the dignity of our family at this time and allow us to deal with this difficult situation and to grieve for our daughter as a family in our own private manner."
