Father of two little girls found dead at Bowen Basin workers' camp

"HOW do you tell a five-year-old and a three-year-old that their dad is not coming home?"

That's the question Andrew Lange had after he was told that his older brother, Trevor Lange, was found dead in the floor of his room at the Hail Creek workers' camp in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The Mackay father-of-two was working at Hail Creek when his body was discovered at the mine workers' camp about 2am on Thursday.

The discovery has left the family in shock and seeking answers.

While the family has been told about how he was found, they still do not have any information on the cause of death.

Andrew said the death of his 33-year-old brother was sudden and unexpected.

"I know all that was on his mind when coming home (from Bowen Basin) was to see his two girls and his partner," Andrew said.

There has been an outpouring of grief for the father of two who lived in Mackay.

"The amount of people who have contacted us to pass on condolences; we know he was well loved," Andrew said.

"He left us without a single enemy."

Andrew said his older brother was "outgoing" and always had a good sense of humour.

"He was the life of the party," Andrew said. "If you were feeling down, Trevor was the one to lift you up."

The cause of death is still being investigated.

A spokesperson for Rio Tinto, who owns the mine, said it was supporting family and colleagues.

"A person at Rio Tinto's Hail Creek mine sadly passed away on Wednesday night at the village camp," a Rio Tinto spokesperson said.

"Rio Tinto advised the relevant authorities and will assist them as required.

"Rio Tinto is working with the person's employer and they are providing support for his family and colleagues during this difficult time."

According to his social media, Trevor was working for Quick Break Cleaning Technologies (QBCT) at Hail Creek.

Nebo police were also called to the scene.
