Father in fear of Facebook page that is defaming people

A ROCKHAMPTON father is afraid his children might hurt themselves if false information about them gets around.

The father, who did not want to be named in fear of retribution, discovered "nasty and horrific" information posted on a Facebook page called Rocky Goss about a number of Rockhampton residents.

The Facebook page, which has been operating since September, allows users to private message the administrator with "dirt" if they wish to publicly defame someone from Rockhampton.

Rockhampton police say they cannot take action until someone lays a complaint. A Rockhampton CIB spokesman said police could not take action if the content was defamatory because the matter was civil, not criminal.

However, the spokesman said if messages threatened Facebook users they should contact the police.

One Facebook post on the page slandered a Rockhampton man. The messager then announced he wanted to find the man and "bash" him for allegedly raping his friend's 13-year-old sister.

The father said: "My concern is some of these people may end up hurting themselves if stuff is said on this page.''

The father reported the Facebook page timeline.

Facebook replied: "thank you for your report. We carefully reviewed the timeline you reported but found it doesn't violate our community standard on nudity and pornography so we didn't remove it."

If you have any information as to who the administrators of this Facebook page are, you can call Rockhampton Police on 4932 3500.
