Father charged over genital mutilation of baby

A SYDNEY father has been charged over the genital mutilation of his baby daughter when the family was holidaying overseas.

Medical staff discovered the nine-month-old had been circumcised when her mother took her to the doctor.

Detectives from the Child Abuse Squad were told the infant underwent the procedure while the family was overseas in February.

The baby's father has been charged with aid/abet/counsel or procure female genital mutilation and will front a Manly court on January 28.
