Motorcyclist dies in Whiporie crash

A MAN believed to be in his 60s died after his motorcycle collided with a utility near Whiporie, south of Casino on Saturday.

A police representative said about 10.45am on Saturday the man - whose name has not yet been released - was travelling north on the Summerland Way when it is believed he collided with a Mazda utility in the vicinity of the intersection of Whiporie Rd.

Emergency services, including police from the Richmond Local Area Command, members of the NSW Ambulance Service and the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter, rushed to the scene.

Despite frantic efforts to save the motorcyclist, he died at the scene.

A report is being prepared for the Coroner.

The police representative said the driver of the utility was unhurt in the crash.

The Summerland Way was blocked in both directions for a number of hours on Saturday as a police crash investigation team examined the site.

The death of the motorcyclist took the death toll on NSW roads for the Christmas/New Year period to nine.

The national road toll last night stood at 31.
