Fast start for three teams in Twenty20
ALSTONVILLE, Ballina Bears and Cudgen won both their games on the first day of the Far North Coast LJ Hooker League Twenty20 cricket competition.
Cudgen all-rounder Caleb Ziebell scored his second century of the season with 158 not out from opening bat in a 126-run over the Casino Cavaliers at Megan Crescent Oval, Lennox Head.
Ziebell was all class with the bat but Casino were under the pump early with fast bowlers Tom Carlton and Al Nowlan late arrivals at the game.
Earlier, Alec Williams scored 81 not out in a 38-run win over Lennox Head.
Tintenbar-East Ballina opening batsman Abe Crawford scored 130 when the 'Bar thumped Murwill- umbah in their second game at Kingsford Smith Park, Ballina.
Earlier, Crawford had scored 61 when they reached 6-202 before a narrow loss when Alstonville hit the winning runs from the final ball of the game.
A returning Kristiaan Ezzy was unbeaten on 63 while all-rounder Jason Caught was 40 not out with the red soilers finishing on 5-204.
Opening batsman Kyle Yager scored 81 and wicketkeeper- batsman Mitchell Pearce 40 not out in a 145-run win over Murwillumbah later in the day.
Elsewhere, the Ballina Bears top order fired in games against Marist Brothers and Pottsville, Fripp Oval, Ballina.
Opening batsman Ben Carruth- ers scored 71 not out while Justin Moore (69) and Sam Adams (33 not out) helped them to 1-191.
Brothers made a game of it and still had six wickets in hand when they ended their 20 overs at 4-174.
Adams played a starring role with the bat again in the second game with an unbeaten 55 while all-rounder Jeremy Perkins was 52 not out against Pottsville.
The pair chased down the Pottsville total of 5-158 with 10 balls to spare.
Two-day games will resume on January 6-7 then the rest of the month will be Twenty20.
