'Fast and furious' baby born in Tweed Hospital car park
A 'FAST and furious' dash to Tweed Heads Hospital at 2am this morning came too late for one of the Tweed's newest arrivals.
Baby Sophia was born in the family car in the hospital car park.
The baby's father, Aman Singh, has described the ordeal as something like a scene from the movie Fast and Furious.
"As soon as my partner's waters broke at home in Tugun we were on the road," Mr Singh said.
"There was no time to muck around, the baby was on its way and was in a hurry.
"It was so crazy and I was so freaked out I just wanted to get to the hospital."
The baby's mother, Mellissa Cattell, said she was really stressed, but her partner kept her calm.
"I wasn't ready, but the baby was. I was trying not to push," she said.
"My other little girl was also in the car and witnessed the whole thing."
The couple said although they feared the worst about giving birth in the car, they were thankful for all the assistance they received from the hospital afterwards.
Sophia Preed Singh was born weighing 3.7kg and was 52cm long. She is a sister to Hamelia.
