Fashion with flair at Paris Fashion Week

HE'S got the whole fashion world in his hands, or so it seemed at Paris Fashion Week when Karl Lagerfeld again redefined what the Chanel woman is, 21st century-style.

The show, held at the Grand Palais in the fashion capital, revolved around a 15-metre globe that featured little markers representing the presence of Chanel boutiques the world over.

While this collection pays tribute to its iconic roots (plenty of wool tweed and pleated skirts) the pieces are reworked to provide a necessary contemporary injection via sharp cut-outs, the popular oversized coats and colourfully clashing fur hats.

Chunky knits, oversized quilted clutches, thigh-high boots, layered accessories and lots of black on black were reoccurring themes in what basically was a new spin on old classics, enough to keep the fans happy at least.

These included Parisian fashion royalty like Vanessa Paradis and Ines de la Fressange, magazine heavyweights (metaphorically speaking obviously) Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington, and a touch of Hollywood courtesy of Jessica Chastain and former model now actor Milla Jovovich.
