Farmers Association clarifies landholder rights regarding mining

AS a landholder in the Northern Rivers are you aware of your rights when it comes to dealing with mining and exploration companies?

Would you know where to go to have your say on any mining leases that may include your land?

NSW Farmers Association recently held a number of workshops in the Northern Rivers to help provide landowners and farmers with the information they need to make informed decisions.

"It is important that we empower landholders to have their say," mining and coal seam gas officer for NSW Farmers, Scott Harlum said.

Mr Harlum said NSW Farmers were constantly advocating for farmers and change, acting as a conduit between landholders and the government.

In a recorded speech given by NSW Farmers president Fiona Simson at the workshops, it was made clear that the association does not support the current NSW legislation and lack of landholders' rights.

The organisation is working to ensure landholders know exactly where they stand.

As land use competition becomes more intense between farmers and mining companies, the information NSW Farmers has access to becomes imperative.
