Farmer Charlies' staff will be paid

DUMPED workers from local supermarket chain Farmer Charlies will get their entitlements regardless of what happens with attempts to sell the company, administrator Mark Roufeil has said.

Mr Roufeil closed the door on Lismore’s Farmer Charlies supermarket on Saturday and on its Ballina and Evans Heads stores on Friday evening.

He is now trying to find a buyer for the troubled chain, which is in the hands of administrators for the second time since 2009.

Mr Roufiel said employee entitlements were guaranteed under a Federal Government scheme, but there should be enough money left in the company to make reliance on the scheme unnecessary.

Mr Roufiel said he was unable to guarantee jobs for workers even if the company were sold to one of four parties to have so far expressed an interest, saying a new owner may want fewer staff.
