Far North Coast boys win State silver

LOCAL hockey players Bailey Powell and Matthew Scurr recently returned from the Australian School Exchange Championships with a silver medal.

The boys were selected in the NSW PSSA team following the State championships at Moorebank in Sydney on July 9.

Bailey, 11, attends St Joseph's, Coraki, and Matthew, 12, attends St Mary's, Casino. The boys play for Coraki in the the Far North Coast Under-13 competition.

The School Sports Australian National Exchange was held in Newcastle from August 10-14.

There were seven teams competing with Western Australia at its first championships.

There were no finals and NSW finished second on points.

NSW team coach was Graeme Minett from Tinonee Primary School and the team manager was Matt Hobbs from Coraki Primary School.

Results: NSW 2-Vic 2; NSW 5-0 SA; NSW 2-Tas 1; NSW 3-ACT 1; NSW 0-Qld 0; NSW 0-WA 0.
