Fanning wins all-Australian final

MICK Fanning is riding the crest of a wave after becoming the first Aussie to win the Billabong Pro in Tahiti since Mark Occhilupo in 1999.

Fanning just did enough to beat his mate and long-time rival Joel Parkinson in the all-Australian final yesterday.

Parkinson made the world No.1 work hard for the win after starting with a solid 9.50 backed up by an 8.87 on his second ride to hold a commanding lead over Fanning.

That was until the two-time world champion came up with the goods finishing with a 9.37 and 9.50 to win by just 0.50 points.

The win is Fanning's second of the year after taking out the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach earlier in the year.
