Flyboard Byron Bay owner Liam Alrich said customers were "insanely stoked" once they got up and that it was great to see adults smiling ear-to-ear, like children, again.

"My dad is 78 and to see him get up and learn something new at his age is simply wonderful," Mr Alrich said.

"It was like he was a kid again, and that's because it is something completely new.

"It is a complete sense of freedom and you have to let go of everything you think you know."

The device consists of a board that is lifted into the air by high-velocity water pumped from a 215 horsepower super-charged jet-ski.

Mr Alrich, a world champion show skier, controls the flow of water through the jet-ski to ensure the customer has the best possible ride.

"Once it all comes together it is just a look of pure joy on their face," he said.

Flyboard Byron Bay offers 20-minute rides at $85 for anyone aged 12 to 80 years.
