Family mourns loss of two sons

NOBODY should have to experience the loss of a child let alone the loss of two sons in the space of five months.

But this nightmare has become a reality for one Woodburn family.

Chase Mason, 16, died in January after a car accident on the Pacific Highway at Tabbimoble.

The loss of the popular Evans River K-12 student was mourned by the community and his loving family.

But his death was too much to bear for Chase’s older brother Beau, who committed suicide on the weekend.

Beau, 29, had been battling with depression ever since the death of his younger brother, who he adored beyond belief.

The Mason family was struggling with the loss of two of their own but their grief was also heightened by debt, left behind from funeral costs.

Naomi Mason, cousin of Beau and Chase, approached The Northern Star about the Mason Family Appeal, which will raise money for the family to cover funeral costs.

“They were just starting to get a little bit better but with the money left behind from Chase’s funeral, they find it hard to get everything together,” she said.

“The money will help them with the cost of the funeral and to take that extra stress off them.

“They are having enough trouble accepting the deaths and they have this massive debt to go with their grievance.

"Now they have lost two boys and are going to go through the debt all over again.”

Donations to the cause can be made through a bank account set up at the Summerland Credit Union.
