Facebook page for Splendour

MORE than 1600 people have joined a Facebook fan page called ‘Keep Splendour in the Grass in Byron.’

The music festival is moving to Woodford in Queensland next year after repeated unsuccessful attempts to run a trial event at a Yelgun site called North Byron Shire Parkklands.

The festival must move from its former home at Belongil Fields because the area has been rezoned for residential use.

The Facebook page had 1665 fans late yesterday.

Fans have posted messages on the page mostly in favour of keeping the festival in theByron Shire.

Ali-Rose Hobbs said: “As a Byron local I know that Byron needs the tourism brought by Splendour.”

Emma Poulton posted: “Part of what makes Byron so awesome will just vanish if Splendour is relocated.”

Two messages appeared to support the move to Woodford.

Maddie Felton said: “The reason Byron Council is against having the festival at the Yelgun site is because it’s one of Australia’s largest koala habitats.”

Angelika Oski said: “The noise is a big issue because it’s a residential area ... 25,000 people flooding into a small town for only two days has its repercussions.”

SHOULD SPLENDOUR STAY IN THE BYRON SHIRE?
