Extended parking time

RICHMOND Valley Council has provided an early Christmas present to Casino shoppers by extending the parking times in the CBD.

Instead of doing all that last- minute shopping in only one hour, the time has been extended to two hours.

Council's general manager John Walker said this decision would provide a boost for local businesses in the Casino CBD over the busy Christmas period.

"Council is fully supportive of the request for extended parking to position our town as a more attractive Christmas shopping choice for locals and visitors," he said.

A spokesperson for the Casino Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the news had been received favourably by businesses in the CBD but they would like to see it go further.

"Additional feedback has also been received by a number of businesses in the CBD, who have said that they would like to see the two-hour parking limit remain permanently," the chamber said.

"Customers have either received a fine or concerned about a possible fine if their appointment runs over an hour."

Such examples included were hair appointments, doctor appointments, meetings with financial institutions or even just going out to lunch.

Feedback by the chamber is to be collated and passed on to Richmond Valley Council for further review.
