Lismore student Keea to play futsal for Australia in Brazil

TALENTED young futsal fanatic Keea Parrish, from Trinity Catholic College in Lismore, continues to impress and has been selected to represent Australia in Brazil.

Keea, who is in Year 9, will join the Australian Under-16 girls club team in what's expected to be a hectic introduction to international competition.

The 15-year-old missed out on a futsal trip to the United States recently due to technical hitches, so she is understandably excited about her trip in August.

I'm really, really looking forward to it," she said.

"It all started in school when I played in Byron Bay with the inter-school team and I was selected from there and I went away to Melbourne and Ballarat.

"From there I was selected in the All-Stars team and I got picked to go to Brazil."

Keea and her family were not aware at the time she could advance from the All-Stars into the Australian team, so her selection came as a welcome shock.

"It was a big shock for everyone. I'm playing in a team a year older, so I'm probably the only younger one there," she said.

"I have some friends I met who played in Brazil last year and they won the comp, so I'm hoping we can do that well too."

Keea wanted to thank Damien and Kathleen Parker, who she said were integral to her futsal success.

Trinity's Mason Greenhalgh is now in the UK with the Australian Under-14 boys club team.
