Ex-journo tells of becoming high-class escort

SHE IS an attractive 40-year-old with a background as a magazine journalist, so why is she earning $5000 a night as a high-class escort?

That was the nub of the question put to Amanda Goff, or "Samantha X", by friend and guest reporter James Thomas on Channel 7's Sunday Night.

She has written a book on her experiences: Hooked - Secrets of a High-Class Escort.

Amanda tells how she had "everything" including a wonderful husband, but fled that world to become an escort.

"Everything" included stints with New Idea, InStyle and as Beauty Editor for Prevention Magazine.

She tells of being a full-time mother on some weeks then transforming into Samantha X, complete with luxury apartment while the kids stay with their father.

Asked why she sells her body, Amanda characterised her work as empowerment.

Amanda tells her interviewer she is not selling her body, simply charging for something she was already doing for free.

I dated a few men, had a few let-downs, had a few nasty experiences, and I thought:

'That is it. Noone is taking advantage of me. No man is doing this to me. I'm going to turn the power around'.

Her clients run the gamut, she says, from 19-year-old surfers to to others who have been married for 45 years.

"I give them intimacy and I give them a place they feel safe and comfortable, where, quite often, it's not necessarily about sex."

Amanda said her life is not necessarily so different from that of other mothers - she still turns up to work at the school canteen on Wednesday - and her children are not affected.

"Most parents do know what I do," Amanda said.

"The (children) are not ridiculed OK?

"I'm not the perfect person, I don't have all the answers.

"When it comes to it, all I can do is cross that bridge."

Amanda's views on her lifestyle and professional choices divided those on Twitter:
