Everyone’s invited to Lismore Halal and Tofu BBQ
PEOPLE from across the Northern Rivers are invited to a free, all-inclusive, Halal and Tofu barbecue this Saturday in Lismore.
The inaugural event is collaboration between the Northern Rivers Muslim Association and Remembering and Healing, Lismore.
Remembering and Healing Lismore coordinator Sabina Baltruweit after working together for eight years, both organisations decided to branch out, hold a barbecue, and have an open invitation to everyone in the region.
"The barbecue is about being open-minded, reaching out to people and making connections with people that we otherwise wouldn't so easily have contact with," she said.
People who attend do not have to eat the Halal certified meat or the tofu, and are asked to bring a plate of salads and desserts to share, plus any picnic needs.
"We are a diverse area and I think that's a richness we have that we need to celebrate," she said.
"So its really a celebration of our rich culture on the Northern Rivers."
The Northern Rivers Muslim Association are supplying the Halal meat for the barbecue and Remembering and Healing Lismore are supplying the tofu.
Ms Baltruweit said a volunteer who works with children will be holding activities for the kids and some local musicians will be performing.
The barbecue will be held at Lismore's Heritage Park from noon.
In the event of rain, the barbecue will be held at the same time on Saturday, February 27, at Heritage Park.
"We will be putting up a marquee and there are shelters there so if there are a few clouds in the sky and a chance of drizzle we don't want that to turn people away," Ms Baltruweit
