Evans Head ‘sick bay’ upgrade
THE EMERGENCY Marine Access Wharf at Evans Head, commonly known as "The Sick Bay" has been in a poor state of repair with inadequate lighting and signage.
The good news is an upgrade is under way.
Marine Rescue Evans Head said there was a medium to high risk associated with the use of the medical access pontoon in its current state of repair.
The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has arranged for removal of the existing dilapidated pontoon and will replace it with a new pontoon as well as upgrade associated infrastructure including lighting.
The project was listed on the DPI coastal infrastructure asset register as a priority.
The latest information is that the job will be complete before the Fishing Classic begins.
This has been a significant co-operative effort between the Evans Head Fisherman's Co-operative, NSW Ambulance- Evans Head, the Local Emergency Management Committee and Marine Rescue Evans Head.
The upgrade will involve consultation with the relevant public authorities.
