Evans Head champion made Canada squash final

FORMER Evans Head athlete Ryan Cuskelly has been defeated by Hong Kong's Max Lee in the final of the Canada Cup on Friday AEST.

It was a disappointing end to his attempt to win the title in Toronto after Cuskelly's masterful defeat of his New Zealand opponent Campbell Grayson 3-0 (11-3, 11-5, 11-7).

It was a convincing win by Lee who managed his biggest career win to date when he overcame the 30-year-old who faltered after making an unforced error.

After a solid past few months, Cuskelly who holds 11th place in the world series ranking, appeared to be out of sorts while Lee started off strongly to win the first game in convincing fashion.

Despite a strong resurgence from Cuskelly in the second game, Lee held on to take a 2-0 advantage.

In the third game Cuskelly responded well but despite saving multiple match balls, an unforced error saw Lee take the title 11-7 11-8 5-11 14-12.

Cuskelly will now concentrate on his game ahead of the Windy City Open in Chicago which runs from February 22 to 28.
