Essential Energy work could cause slight delays at Jiggi

ESSENTIAL Energy is about to begin a major upgrade to the north of Lismore that will strengthen the power network and boost electricity supply reliability.

Regional manager North Coast, Brendon Neyland, said the work would primarily involve replacing aged poles and cross-arms and upgrading old copper powerlines to stronger, higher capacity aluminium.

"Over the next two months, weather permitting, 10 kilometres of powerlines will be upgraded along Jiggi Road," Mr Neyland said.

"Once complete, the project will help to ensure we have a safe and sustainable electricity network and provide our customers with a more reliable power supply."

Starting on February 3, work will take place along Jiggi Road between Goolmangar Village and Oakey Creek Road. Traffic control will be in place at times, which may cause slight delays.

"Unfortunately it isn't possible to do this work 'live', so we thank our customers for their patience and understanding while we carry out these enhancements," Mr Neyland said.

"All affected customers will receive advance notification of the planned work."
