Environmentally friendly plan
USER friendly is how Richmond Valley director of environmental development services Ken Exley has described the new draft Local Environment Plan (LEP).
A team of five staff worked on the plan for four years and were required to consult with 17 government agencies in order to get things right.
“A fairly massive task,” Mr Exley said.
The new plan uses a series of maps to provide information about flooding, heritage, acid sulphate soils and bushfires.
The maps will make it easier for residents to access information about their properties, he said.
The draft plan consolidates old LEPs from the Casino, Richmond River and Copmanhurst councils before they were amalgamated into Richmond Valley Council.
While the draft plan is expected to go on public exhibition in March, construction of the new Casino Community and Cultural Centre is expected to be completed within 12 months.
