Enjoying a big week in Reardon household

IT HAS been a funny old time in the Reardon household this week.

If you'd told me I would be getting a call from the national selection panel about having a game for Australia, I'd have said you were dreaming.

If you'd told me that the Queensland Bulls would comfortably chase down a score of nearly 400 in 50 overs, I'd have checked the contents of your drink.

And if you'd informed me that I would have English legend Andrew Flintoff as a teammate later this season, I would have wondered what hallucinogenic substance you had gotten hold of.

Well, all three have happened and my head is still spinning!

Being honest, I didn't think my chances of playing for Australia were entirely out of the question, but that boat was preparing to cast off.

I'd gone to dinner with some of the Bulls players and left my phone in our apartment in Sydney while we were out.

Ben Cutting and Cameron Boyce each got a call from Rod Marsh in Dubai, and one of them suggested I should check my phone when I got back for any missed calls with a +95 number.

When I walked in the room and went to my phone, there it was.

I was a bit misty for a second, and then I reasoned that they wouldn't be ringing me just to say 'hello', so it was probably good news.

And it was. I'm thrilled to be representing my country in the T20 Internationals in a few weeks against South Africa.

The game against Tasmania at North Sydney was amazing, but even when we walked off North Sydney Oval after seeing my old mate Ben Dunk nail a double century to get the Tigers to nearly 400, we were still confident of giving it a shake.

As it was, they were probably 20 runs short.

Once we got away to a strong start through Chris Hartley and Usman Khawaja, we were increasingly confident we could do it.

Dunky and I didn't have a big chat afterwards.

He is a rival, but he's still a good mate and I was thrilled for him when he was picked alongside me in the national T20 side.

Finally, news overnight that Freddie Flintoff will play for the Brisbane Heat in this season's KFC T20 Big Bash League blew me away.

I'd heard we were in the hunt for him, but to have a bloke who won an Ashes series commit to play for us is huge.

It promises to be a thrilling BBL and one that I can't wait to get into it.
