Walk the walk with Westpac's coastal charity event
IT'S TIME to start working on your fitness - the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter's annual coastal charity walk from Byron Bay to Ballina is coming up.
Last year more than 1200 people took part in the event, which is in its fourth year.
Registrations have now opened for the walk on Sunday, May 31.>> MORE NORTHERN RIVERS NEWS
Event co-ordinator Louise Jordan said it was shaping up to be "another big day, full of fun and community support".
Entrants are being encouraged to go in fancy dress, or wear team colours.
"It's a great event for people of all levels of fitness to join with friends, family or work colleagues to enjoy the walk, either at their leisure or as a physical challenge to set a personal best time," Ms Jordan said.
While the full walk distance is 35km, entrants can choose to stop at Broken Head (12km) or Lennox Head (24km), with buses on hand to take people back to Byron Bay.
Each entry fee includes a $25 donation to the rescue helicopter, cap, water and snacks at checkpoints along the way.
This is one of the helicopter's major fundraisers, so free registration is being offered to those who fundraise over $500.
