Energy provider slams the door on door-to-door sales
IT'S the end of an annoyance - a major electricity and gas provider will cease door to door sales technique because, shockingly, people saw it as intrusive.
EnergyAustralia, previously known as TRUenergy, will slam the door on the unpopular and frustrating sales tactic by the end of March.
EnergyAustralia's Group Executive Manager of Retail Adrian Merrick said the company was leading the way when it came to axing door-to-door sales.
"While door knocking is an effective way of selling electricity and gas contracts and deliver us significant sales, households have made it clear that it's something they don't like or want," Mr Merrick said.
"Door-to-door selling is our most complained about sales channel.
"The consistent feedback from consumers is that they find door knocking intrusive, and that they want to control when and how they are interacting with energy retailers."
State Energy Minister Mark McArdle said it was great to see one of the country's leading energy retailers listening to frustrated consumers.
"As I travel around Queensland, and in particular my electorate, one of the complaints I hear most often is the tactics used by door-to-door salespeople who arrive unannounced," Mr McArdle said.
"It has also been a topic raised at regular Consumer and Industry Reference Group meetings.
"Customers like to make their own informed decisions and they clearly don't like intrusive and annoying practices.
"EnergyAustralia has taken a step in the right direction and I sincerely hope other energy and gas retailers will follow its lead by stopping this unpopular practice."
