Emergency roadworks on Pac Hwy at New Italy

UPDATE: POLICE have explained how a car crashed into the wire rope barrier separating north and southbound traffic on the Pacific Highway at New Italy about 6am, damaging the barrier.

Lismore police sergeant Rob Maher said the male driver of the car stopped at the scene and checked his vehicle for damage.

A highway patrol car attended and notified the Transport Management Centre of the damage to the wire rope barrier.

INITIAL REPORT: SOUTHBOUND traffic on the Pacific Highway is affected at New Italy as emergency roadworks are undertaken.

Live Traffic NSW is reporting there will be delays due to the work to fix the wire rope barrier in the middle median, with reduced speed limits to 40km/h through that section.

It is not yet clear how the barrier came to be in need of repairs, but Live Traffic reports the situation began around 6am this morning.

More to come.
