Elite actor Billie Brown had major role in Ipswich

AS QUEENSLAND mourned the death of theatre legend Bille Brown, Bundamba MP Jo-Ann Miller remembered his passion for teaching Ipswich students, including herself.

"Bille Brown was a teacher at Bremer State High School in the early 1970s," Ms Miller said.

"He taught students a love of theatre and the arts.

"Many students went to see Queensland Theatre Company productions... where he acted at night, and students gained a unique insight into plays, Shakespeare, and English expression."

"My favourite was Exit the King, where he starred beside his lifelong friend Geoffrey Rush."

Ms Miller said Bille Brown was dedicated to education in Ipswich.

"The new Performing Arts Centre at Bundamba State Secondary College is his legacy locally," she said.
