Election campaign turns spotlight on electricity
RE-ELECTING a Coalition government could mean household electricity prices soar by as much as $400 per household, per year, if the poles and wires network is privatised, shadow minister for infrastructure Anthony Albanese says.
Mr Albanese visited the Banora Point power sub-station with Richmond MP Justine Elliot and Labor candidate for Tweed Ron Goodman to reiterate Labor's election promise to keep the state's poles and wires away from privatisation.
Mr Albanese said there was no way to enforce Premier Mike Baird's promise that the sale of electricity assets would only go ahead if bidders could guarantee prices would not increase in the first five years.
"(Either) the sale will not go ahead for which case every one of his promises turns to dust instantly, or secondly, the sale does go ahead for which case there's no real guarantee. What are they going to do, send a nasty letter?" Mr Albanese said.
