Elderly man dies while swimming at Broken Head

AN 81-year-old man, believed to be an international visitor, has died while swimming at Seven Mile Beach, Broken Head.

Acting Inspector Chad Deegenaars from the Tweed/Byron LAC said he visited the beach with some family members before heading out for a swim by himself.

"His family became concerned when he had not returned, they began looking for him and he was noticed be members of the public floating in the water," he said.

"The members of the public brought him onto land and commenced CPR and Emergency Services were called."

Unfortunately the man was unable to be revived and he died at the scene.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
