Elderly man assaulted and robbed

AN elderly man was punched in the face and had his wallet stolen yesterday after he stopped his car in a Lismore street to chat to a woman.

At about 2:45pm, a 73-year-old man stopped his car on McKenzie Street to talk to a woman.

A 29-year-old Lismore man then approached the car, leant in the window and punched the elderly man in the face.

The offender attempted to steal the victim’s keys out of his ignition but the victim fought him off.

The offender still managed to steal the 73-year-old’s wallet.

The offender and the woman fled to a block of nearby flats.

Police attended the flats and arrested the pair.

The male was charged with robbery and bailed to appear in Lismore Local Court.
