The Northern Star Editor's view

HOW many more families have to suffer the pain of the police turning up on their doorstep to tell them the terrible news that one of their own has been taken in a tragic accident on the Pacific Highway?

How high does the number of suffering families need to be, Premier Nathan Rees, before your Government will fix what has been a national disgrace for decades?

The Pacific Highway is an ongoing saga the State Labor Government keeps ignoring. But the problem might still be here long after this Labor Government has gone. The recent withdrawal by the State Government of $300 million in funding over the next five years is appalling, and voters won’t forget.

NSW voters were promised this funding and without a thought for the impact this Government has taken it off the table.

Byron mum Robyn Thomas and her family are so passionate about getting the Pacific Highway fixed they went to Sydney yesterday to face down the NSW Parliament and demanded action now.

Mrs Thomas, her husband Norm and her daughter Mia, know the pain of losing someone on the highway and wish to stop anyone else having to go through a similar heart-wrenching experience.

But while the Thomas family had the support of Don Page MP and NSW Business Chamber’s Sharon Cadwallader, it would be good to see more supporters from our region joining their fight to get the Pacific Highway fixed now.

If we truly want to see something done everyone needs to stand up and be counted to let the NSW Government know we have had enough.
