Ebay scam warning

A GRAFTON man wants to warn Ebay sellers of a likely scam that is in operation in the pre-Christmas rush.

The man, who asked not to be identified, said he received a text message from a computer-based SMS service asking for a "firm price" for his Ebay "item".

The man asked which item he was talking about because he had a number for sale.

"List what you have for sale so i can specify," came the reply.

Instantly suspicious, the man played along saying he would need to see the catamaran to ensure it was right and that he'd like a cash payment. The reply was tellingly silent.

The man said he recognised these as the traits of a scam in which the buyer transfers too much money into a seller's account and then asks for a refund of the overpayment only to cancel the original money transfer.
