Easts and Glee do battle in dour draw
EAST and Glee shared the spoils in the latest hard-fought FNC women's hockey action.
The two sides could not be split as they contested a 1-1 draw during Saturday's action.
Neither side was at full strength for their match, but that did not prevent some excellent play during the clash at Hepburn Park.
Easts opened the scoring after eight minutes with help from the controversial new home goal rule. Sophie Rodda sent a ball into the circle from inside the 25 and it deflected off a defender and into the goal.
The match didn't reach any great heights and both sides had their chances to score but some solid defence from both sides meant there was no further scoring before the interval.
In the second half, Easts had the ascendancy for most of the half. Only some excellent saves by Glee keeper Nicola Prosser kept her side in the clash.
With 12 minutes to go and against the run of play, Glee was awarded and converted a penalty corner when Maddy Richey got a nice touch on a shot to level the scores.
Both sides had chances to take the match but the match finished in a draw.
Among the weekend's other action, Ballina saw off Easts 3-0 in A-grade reserve action on Friday night.
In A-grade Ballina and Northern star played out a 2-2 draw.
Meanwhile, newcomers and experienced players are reminded they can enjoy light-hearted competition.
