Duncan a hat-trick hero in heart-stopping preliminary final

PETER Duncan was a hat-trick hero as Coraki saw off East Lismore in a heart-stopping FNC men's A-grade hockey preliminary final.

An end-to-end contest produced some excellent play before Coraki took the match 3-2 to seal a place in this Saturday's grand final.

The match started at a frantic pace with both teams displaying some incredible skill.

Coraki's Ben Moss was the architect for his side's opening goal, carrying the ball through the opposition backline and laying off to unmarked Peter Duncan to drive home.

Despite a battling effort, Easts could not equalise before the end of the first half.

Six minutes into the second half, Brad Hughes goaled off a brilliant penalty corner variation to level the scores.

East lifted for a period after the goal and applied some pressure on the Coraki defence, but Duncan put his side in the lead with a deflected strike with 14 minutes to go.

With eight minutes to go, Matt Rodda got a perfect ball to Ryan Holding who set up teammate Brent Russ to make it 2-2.

The match went to extra time, but despite applying pressure, Easts could not find a winner.

Duncan made them pay, firing home in the second section to complete his hat-trick and end East Lismore's 2013 season.
