Drugs, firearms seized in raids

STOLEN firearms and drugs with a street value of more than $96,000 were recovered in two separate raids at properties on the Northern Rivers on Thursday.

Police from the Richmond Local Area Command executed a search warrant at a property in Gungas Road, Nimbin, at 10.15am.

As a result, 22 cannabis plants up to two metres in height were found.

The plants were seized by police.

A 53-year-old Nimbin man has been charged with cultivation and possession of a prohibited plant.

A 45-year-old Nimbinwoman was also charged with possession of a prohibited plant and possession of a prohibited drug.

Both will appear in the Lismore Local Court on August 9.

A second search warrant was executed by officers from the Richmond Target Action Group and Lismore detectives at a home in Clarence Way at Old Bonalbo about 12.50pm.

In an enclosed room in a shed, police found a ‘sophisticated hydroponics cultivation system' and 26 mature cannabis plants up to one metre in height.

Police said the set-up used ‘advanced lighting and exhaust extraction systems'.

Firearms, recently stolen from a Yetman property, were also found.

A 55-year-old Old Bonalbo man was charged with a number of offences linked to the seizure, including cultivate and possess a prohibited plant, receiving stolen prop-erty and firearms-relatedoffences.

He will appear in the Casino Local Court on August 4.
