Drugs detected in overseas consignments

A SERIES of drug busts across New South Wales and Victoria last week netted about 32kg of methamphetamine precursor chemical ephedrine.

The drugs were detected in 14 separate consignments from Hong Kong, China, India and Ireland at air cargo an international mail facilities in both states.

Customs officers found ephedrine concealed inside bags of sugar, sanding machines, steel rods, foodstuffs, packets of tea, oatmeal and coffee and in pistons and tape dispensers.

The authorities did not report any arrests related to the drug seizures to date, and encouraged people to report any suspicious behaviour to Customs Watch on 1800 06 1800.
