Almost seven times over the limit

POLICE arrested a man who was found to be driving while almost seven times over the blood alcohol limit in the state’s north last night.

About 7.40pm, police received a call about a car being driven erratically along the Summerland Way near Casino.

Police intercepted the Holden Barina about 1km from Casino after seeing it veer onto the wrong side of the road.

The car was stopped and the 47-year-old driver was breath tested. A man and woman were also passengers in the car.

When the driver returned a positive reading he was arrested and taken to Casino Police Station. He was subjected to a breath analysis and returned a reading of 0.341.

His driver’s licence was immediately suspended and his car keys were seized.

Due to his level of intoxication, it was not suitable for the man to be charged at the time.

Instead, the man was kept in custody for a number of hours before being taken to a relative’s home.

Police will follow-up with the high-range drink driving charge and other possible offences later today.
