Dress for the Blues

FLOPPY hat, check. Bold tribal print, check. And, trucker cap?

If you're planning your outfit for Bluesfest there's a few considerations, and best not to combine the trends.

The 23rd annual Bluesfest kicks off today at the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm with one of the most diverse line-ups we've seen.

There's Aussie pub-rockers Cold Chisel, disco dancing Earth, Wind and Fire, the folk loving Crosby, Stills and Nash, the former dread-lock loving John Butler and skank-enducing Sublime with Rome.

With 87,500 punters expected across the five days you don't want to stand out in the crowd. So matching your outfit to its musical equivalent might be the best way to go.

Crosby Stills and Nash

Woodstock flashbackers beware. Flower children are predicted to descend on Tyagarah Tee Tree Farm in vast numbers, channelling the sartorial splendour of headliners Crosby Stills and Nash in a sea of Paisley prints and tie-dye.

The Sun hat; aka 'The Faye Dunaway'; this floppy broad-brimmed hat is not only the height of fashion right now, it's also a stylistic nod to the folk genre. A classic felt version will see you through the winter.

The maxi skirt; flowing and comfy, this floor-length maxi skirt is a great boho festival pick. This floaty piece is readily available in floral prints and plains. Just keep it out of the mud.

Genuine retro band T-shirts from the 60s and 70s will be hot property.

Earth Wind and Fire

Create your own Boogie Wonderland ensemble by mismatching bold prints - diagonal stripes and Aztec prints. This look; a fusion of disco and psychedelia, isn't for the fashion faint-hearts.

Flares; surf and jean retailers are reporting a big spike in flares sales for Bluesfest.

Tassels and fringes; think Jim Hendrix at Woodstock. Tasselled jackets or leather bags.

The Specials

Channel your inner 'rudie' with that classic ska look.

Skinny pair of braces, black stovepipe jeans and Doc Martin boots are the ultimate in skank-wear.

Seasick Steve

This old time blues gui- tarist is a hard-workin' man's muso, and looks the part.

Understated checked shirt or whisky-branded tee. Worn-in denim jeans or overalls teamed with a trucker cap.
