Dramatic roof collapse at Moonee

RESIDENTS of Moonee Beach swarmed to the caravan park at around midday on Sunday after the roof of the Moonee Hall collapsed.

Police, ambulance and SES crews arrived on the scene quickly to secure the area and ensure the safety of those nearby.

A quick inspection of the damage revealed that nobody was injured,

Len and Carolyn Scorey were staying not far away from the hall while they were enjoying a holiday.

The couple from Morayfield said that when they arrived on Thursday they noticed a dip in the roofline of the hall that has held so many events.

The roof line was braced with timber for support but the constant wet weather that has fallen on it over the past month was too much for it to bear.

Just before midday the Scorey's heard the crashing of roof tiles.

"I thought, oh my God, what was that?" Carolyn said.

"Tiles cracking has that certain sound so I weas pretty sure it was the roof."

Police, ambulance and SES crews arrived at the Moonee Beach Holiday Park scene quickly to ensure the safety of everyone.

About 50 locals gathered to see what was going on but it didn't take long for the emergency services to declare that nobody had been injured.

Temporary fencing was being erected around the site to keep people away for safety but it wasn't needed for long.

An assessor at the site decided that the hall was unable to be properly rebuilt and ordered the remainder of the roof and the walls be brought down.

An excavator was called in and within three hours of the roof collapsing the hall was demolished down to the base floor level.
