Drag racers to hit Casino strip on Sunday

REVHEADS from across the Northern Rivers and beyond will hit the Casino airstrip this Sunday for the second 2016 Northern Rivers Drag Racing Association meeting.

Association president Mark Anderson said after a successful first meeting in March, this Sunday’s event looks set to be bigger and better.

“The first meeting was very successful considering the weather event we had and the minimal of advertising about the meeting,” he said.

“This weekend is looking to be bigger and better and the weather is looking like it will be fine so it should be a great day for racing.”

One of the highlights of this meeting will be a show and shine by the Kyogle Car Club.

“The show and shine is open to the public and there will be 30 cars there, with prizes awarded for first, second, third and presidents choice,” Mr Anderson said.

“It’s also open to members of the public who wish to bring their car and display it in the show and shine.

“The entry fee for the owner to enter their car in the show and shine is $5.”

Gates open at 7am, with scrutineering running until 9.30am and racing from 10am.

Mr Anderson said there will be the usual classes of exhibition vehicles, blown (turbocharged and supercharged cars), four, six and eight cylinder street cars and motorcycles.

“The standard entry to race is $65 per vehicle which includes insurance,” he said.

The quickest time over the eigth-mile last meeting was 6.72 seconds by Peter Neilson in his V8 powered Fiat Topolino running in the exhibition class.
