Video goes viral as bottle of Jager downed in drink game

WHAT began as a "harmless" drinking game on Facebook, ended with Yeppoon woman, Mary Brown, getting way more attention than she bargained for.

Neknominate has police, doctors and parents concerned the game will only end when someone dies.

Mary told The Morning Bulletin she knew what she was doing when she videoed herself skolling a full bottle of the German-made 70-proof Jagermeister - the equivalent of 19 standard drinks - then uploaded it to Facebook.

But she had no idea she would become the face of stupidity when the video was shared over 5000 times and broadcast on national television.

"The video was for our friends in Yeppoon. We had no idea this would happen," she said.

The 19-year-old nursing student now lives in Brisbane and said she and her friends made the video as a joke.

"It was a silly thing to do and I'm not proud of it, but I was aware of the consequences … it just shows you have to be so careful what you put on the internet.

"I wasn't going to die and I knew that ... well I suppose I didn't, but I was with my friends," she said.

Mary acknowledged she hadn't thought about what could happen if others copied her, or her future career as a nurse.

"It's stupid, but what can I do. I'm sorry if it's affected other people, I really am.

"But the whole world was going to end last year and we're still here … I'll go on with my life.

"Two minutes of video doesn't define my life and who I am."

How It Works

People post videos of themselves skolling alcohol on Facebook then nominate someone else to do the same.
