Reminder: Double demerits apply over Christmas, New Year

DOUBLE demerit points are now in place as police continue to witness irresponsible behaviour on the state's roads.

Since the start of Operation Arrive Alive last Friday, police have assisted 172 people who were injured in crashes, and are issuing a renewed call to all road users to drive responsibly and look out for each other.

Double demerit points will be issued for speeding, mobile phone use, and seat belt and helmet use and will apply until midnight Sunday, January 3, 2016.

They will again be in place from January 22 to January 26 inclusive.
