Double delight for two trainers

LOCAL trainers Peter and Helen Simpson and Trevor Salmoni recorded winning doubles at the Casino greyhound meeting last Friday.

The Simpsons won the first two events on the 12-race card.

The consistent Sobbing Dragon (Dragon Fire-Sobbing Queen) was rewarded with a hard fought win in a maiden 411m, prevailing by ¾ length from the unlucky Little Down Lord and Just A Ripple.

Having been placed at each of his previous nine starts Sobbing Dragon recorded 23.55 seconds.

The Simpson pair's second win came when long shot City Go Getta stormed home to score in the opening heat of the Blue Paws series over 484m.

Travelling just off the pace behind the tearaway leader Lyndan Bandit to the turn City Go Getta finished off the race nicely to draw away to score by 4 ¼ lengths from Sebastian Vale and the tiring Lyndan Bandit who had carved out very slick early sections.

Trevor Salmoni's double was provided by litter mates Elite Jazz and Jazzy Go.

By Elite State-Ellie's Jaz, both youngsters broke out of maiden class.

Elite Jaz recorded a slick 23.25 seconds in a maiden 411m after leading most of the way whilst Jazzy Go had to work hard early before drawing away in winning a maiden over 484m.

Lyndan Bear (Collision-Danterry Lass) owned and trained by Lynn and Terry Jordan created a great impression with his effort in scoring a hollow win in a fifth grade 411m.

Beginning only fairly from box one, Lyndan Bear made full use of the inside draw to push through in the early stages recording an average first section of 8.72 before powering home to score by 8 ¼ lengths in a slick 22.97 seconds.

The final section was a sizzling 14.25 seconds.

The run was the greyhound's first start on the Casino track.

Uki Sheila (Collision-Halzani) prepared on the Tweed by Keith Boan scored one of the easiest wins seen for some time when it careered away in a heat of the Blue Paws Trophy 484m to eventually win by 15 ¼ lengths in 27.49 seconds.

The win was her second over the distance at Casino and she again showed her liking for a wide draw from this start.

Other heat winners in the Blue Paws Trophy were Jolly Jonna (Regal Brett-Proper Jessica) prepared by Shane Robinson which recorded a sound win in 27.37 seconds and Half Track (Hallucinate-Vizcaya) prepared by Sarah and Andrew Monaghan.

Half Track had to work hard to win its event driving home over the final stages to score in 27.82 seconds.

The box draw for the final to be contested at next Friday's meeting will be all important.

Prizemoney to the winner of the final is $2000 and the race also carries a Blue Paws bonus of $1250 if the winner is Blue Paws qualified.

The popular trainer's jackpot was again not won when Grafton greyhound Bob's Fiesta missed a place in his event, carrying the jackpot of $7400.
