Domestic violence resource booklet launched

A CASINO/LISMORE edition of the Charmed and Dangerous Booklet, a resource for victims of domestic violence in the local area, has been launched this afternoon as part of this year's 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence runs each year from November 25 - International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women - through to December 10 - International Human Rights Day.

The booklet was produced by the Lismore and Richmond Valley Domestic Violence Liaison Committees for people in need in the region after the Tweed Shire originally made a similar booklet for people in their local area, said Karuna Fielden, secretary of the Richmond Valley Family Violence Liaison Committee.

"Charmed and Dangerous has been used by women affected by abuse to understand the dynamics of violence, the impacts on their children and to make choices about their future," she said.

"The booklet is compassionate in its approach and recognises the suffering women experience and the complexity of their decisions about relationships. The booklet empowers women to become informed, to know where the help is available locally and to make decisions about their safety and wellbeing."

The booklets will be available from the Women's Resource Centre in Lismore and the Casino Family Support Service in Casino.
