Doll-faced Melissa wins Australia's Next Top Model title

SHE'S the girl who breaks the Top Model rulebook.

Melbourne high school student Melissa Juratowitch was crowned the winner of Australia's Next Top Model at tonight's live grand final at The Star in Sydney.

At just 173cm tall, Juratowitch nearly didn't make it on the show. She was a spectator at the auditions but the judges were blown away by her unique face.

"I just went along to the auditions because I go with my mum to watch them every year," Juratowitch told APN on stage just minutes after tonight's winner's announcement.

"I was just standing there and next thing I knew all the judges were staring at me and then I was up on stage and now I'm here. It's been insane since that moment."

The 16-year-old beat fellow Melbourne schoolgirls Nyadak "Duckie" Thot, who placed third, and runner-up Shanali Martin in the publicly voted final.

Juratowitch's win might have come down to her social media campaign, which she started a few months ago.

"I have a loud personality generally with my friends but in comparison with these girls I was in the corner a lot," she said.

"But I think that getting out there on social media was a real way for me to express my actual personality and appeal to certain people with similar interests."

But it nearly all came undone when her accounts were hacked.

"All my social media accounts got deleted a few weeks away from the final," she said.

"Someone hacked into them and deleted them.  I was nearly at 10,000 followers on Instagram and had all my Facebook followers going, and then it was gone. So I had to start over again and I hit 12,000 today so we're back up there and it's great."

Tonight's live show, which featured performances by Rudimental, Ricki-Lee and Cirque Du Soleil, didn't suffer from any of the dramas that have plagued the Top Model live finales in past years.

Luckily the night ran smoothly for first-time host Jennifer Hawkins, who looked stunning in a blue beaded J'Aton dress with an 18-carat diamond snake necklace valued at $500,000.
