Dogs attack teacher, students on a school excursion

A TEACHER and two students are recovering from dog bites after they were attacked on a school excursion near Newcastle.

A class of students was playing on an oval when a staffordshire bull terrier and bull mastiff ran into the middle of a ball game on Thursday.

The bull mastiff allegedly bit a 15-year-old boy on the thigh and jumped onto the chest of a 14-year-old girl.

When the female teacher tried to shield her students, she was also bitten on the leg.

Police and council rangers were forced to use capsicum spray to defend themselves.

The teacher and students were treated by paramedics.

Both dogs were captured and investigations are continuing to identify their owners.
